F.A.Q.
If you have any more questions, please let us know in the comments.
1. What do the organizers get out of startup weekend?
The same thing that the attendees get: an opportunity to build relationships with entrepreneurs in the Triangle, a nifty t-shirt, a shot of pure entrepreneurial adrenaline, some delicious food, and the chance to see people get excited about starting something.
2. How much do I have to be there? What if my kid has a soccer game? What if I need my 10 hours of beauty rest or I’m cranky?
Spend as much time or as little as you’d like at Startup Weekend. You get out what you put into this. If you’re not there very much, you won’t have a chance to build the community and benefit from the experience. But don’t miss your kid’s soccer game. Take a break, spend time with the people that are important to you, and come back when you can.
3. What happens if people argue constantly?
I’m sure this won’t be an issue because the Triangle has one of the best communities in the country.
4. Who will be in charge?
Essentially, you are. We’ll facilitate Friday night and help people choose ideas and split up into teams, but once that happens, it’s all to you. You get to design, build, publicize and promote your startup with the help of your team. So don’t just sit around, there will be something to do all weekend long. Just ask.
5. What are the perks?
Great food, sweet shirt, live music on Saturday night, awesome location, beer, and networking with awesome people. What more could you want? We still are working on a few additional perks that we have yet to reveal.
6. Who owns the companies that are started?
The people that are in the group. Startup Weekend does not take a share in any of the companies started. And it’s purely up to the members of the group whether they would like to incorporate the company as an LLC or just have an informal agreement or have no agreement whatsoever. Do try to remember that this weekend is mostly about the experience and not so much about profit.
7. Do you go home at night?
Me, personally? Maybe. I might bring my sleeping bag. Oh, you meant the collective “you”. Well, yes, everyone goes home at night and sleeps in their own bed and comes back refreshed and ready to work the next day. That being said, the hardcore won’t sleep much…
8. What time does Startup Weekend begin?
Socializing starts at 6pm on Friday. Actual scheduled events start at 7pm. We’ll start choosing ideas shortly after 7pm, so you will want to be there for that.
9. What is the money used for?
We use the money to buy food, drinks, and shirts for the weekend.
